«American Astronomers Cooperation in the Establishment of the National Observatory of Cordoba, Argentina. The Case of Dudley Observatory.»
Autores Santiago Paolantonio, Edgardo Ronald Minniti, Jorge Bartolucci
Resumen de la propuesta
The purpose of this research proposal is to enhance the current knowledge of the history of the Argentine National Observatory (1871-1936), focusing specifically on the collaboration of the American astronomers, mostly related to Dudley Observatory throughout a period of sixty five years.
During such a period of time, Dudley Observatory and the Observatorio Nacional Argentino were strongly related. Astronomer Benjamin Gould was its first director and several employees of the Dudley Observatory, such as Sebastian Albretch and Richard Tucker were also involved in the work of the Observatorio Nacional. Other directors also connected to Dudley were John Macon Thome y Charles Dillon Perrine.
The research proposal focuses on a revision of the documentation available at Dudley Observatory related to the astronomers mentioned above, with the purpose of completing, revising and correcting the knowledge acquired on the basis of the sources available in Argentine.
According to the justification and the antecedents mentioned above, the main activities of the research consist of the revision of the following records:
Dudley Observatory Archives:
Records of Dudley Observatory (1852-1956)
Benjamin A. Gould´s papers
Records of the Astronomical Journal
Seth C. Chandler´s papers
Benjamin Boss´s papers
